The Benton County Quorum Court has passed a "Land Use Guide". This will aid the Planning Board in making planning decisions for the unincorporated areas including compatibility issues around Beaver Lake.
The Stream Team has been testing for water quality at two sites on tributaries of War Eagle Creek. War Eagle Creek is a major stream that feeds Beaver Lake, the source of NW Arkansas drinking water. If you are interested in participating, please contact Grimsley Graham at 636-2179.
ABLE participated in the Four State Watershed Academy held in late September. Representatives from watergroups, state and federal agencies, and local officials from Okalahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Arkansas heard presentations and discussed water issues. It focused on the need to collabrate on regional water issues instead of using litigation.
As a co-sponsor of Secchi Day, members of ABLE assisted in planning of the activities, and had members in boats taking actual lake measurements. With the heavy spring rains, results showed that water clarity decreased from readings in previous years.
ABLE members participated in the annual Beaver Lake Clean-Up Day in early October. ABLE had an educational booth, and members volunteered their boats and time to gather trash around the lake. There were teams of volunteers from all over NW Arkansas helping the Army Corps of Engineers in this event.
